Honda V65 Magna (VF1100C) vs Suzuki 1200 Madura (GV1200)

Notice how much the two look alike:

  • The fuel tanks.
  • The side panels.
  • The handle bars (the handle bar in the picture is actually a 1983 model).
  • The lining under the seat.
  • Position of the meters.
  • Position of the radiator.
  • Chrome front fender.
  • Both have V-fours with double overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder.
  • Both have twin brake discs in front and one in the back.
  • Hell, even their names look alike (MAgnA and MAdurA).

What happened? Did Suzuki cheat and copy of Honda? Honda being the first one to launch their big power cruiser in 1983. Or did Honda and Suzuki work together?

Of course there are also a lot of differences:

  • The wheels.
  • The exhaust.
  • The seat.
  • The square headlight on the Magna versus the round one on the Madura.
  • The rear suspension.

I haven't seen or ridden a Madura yet, but heard that the Madura handles better in the corners. Not so strange since the Magna's front fork is placed in a larger angle (or smaller depending on which angle you measure) than the Madura making it more comfortable on the straight roads and less comfortable in the twisters. Anyway, very interesting!
